As my grandparents used to live there, I spent a lot of time in Ferguson as a child. And through even the recent times I've visited as an adult, I can tell you that what you've seen on media isn't a fair representation of the town by far.
On the touristy side, they have a summer farmer's market, a nice little old downtown area with some great eateries, and a favorite place of ours called Whistle Stop, a reappropriated train stop along still functioning tracks where you can get some eats and treats. All of these places can definitely use some support now.
We are deeply saddened by all that's happened (later update on that over here), and encourage everyone to support area businesses and the families who earn their livings there.
